557,872. Foodstuffs. POTTS, H. E. (Distillation Products, Inc.). Jan. 5, 1942, No. 126. [Class 5 (ii)] [Also in Group VI] Animal food is prepared by incorporating with subdivided vegetable matter, such as ground alfalfa, coconut meal, breakfast cereals, bran or wheat middlings, a crude scum obtained by the vacuum carrier gas treatment of crude animal or vegetable oils containing tocopherol, particularly corn, cottonseed, palm, soyabean and wheat germ oil, and driving off part of the fatty acids in the scum by drawing steam under vacuum continuously therethrough, preferably while stirring. Alternatively, all but a small portion of the fatty acids may be neutralised by adding lime. Preferably, the scum is first dehydrated by heating it and separating the upper layer of oil. The products may be incorporated with other food mixtures or may be compressed into cakes. Specification 548,731 is referred to. |
