A method of mass spectrometry comprises digitising a plurality of individual signals or transients and summing them to generate composite mass spectral data. A control system determines the number or the proportion of instances in the composite mass spectral data where intensity values relating to the individual digitised signals or transients exceeded or approached a threshold value, suffered from or approached saturation, or resulted from the dynamic range of an ion detector system being exceeded or approached. The proportion of instances may be calculated by dividing the number of instances which a sample bin suffered from saturation by the number of instances which the sample bin has a non-zero or above noise intensity value. The number of consecutive sample bins wherein at least some of the digitised signals or transients suffered from or approached saturation may also be determined. The method may be applied to ADC detector system for time-of-flight mass spectrometry.
|
