<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a photoelectric conversion element high in conversion efficiency and further excellent in durability; and a photoelectrochemical cell. <P>SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element comprises: at least a conductive support; a photoreceptor layer comprising a porous semiconductor layer including a dye; a hole transport layer; and a counter electrode. The porous semiconductor layer contains a dye represented by the following general formula (1), and the hole transport layer is solid.
