[Also in Division G1] In a system for controlling the level of molten glass in a furnace, the rate of feed of raw materials and/or the rate of discharge of molten glass is controlled in dependence on the value of the capacitance between an electrode 17 and the surface of the molten glass 2. As shown in Fig. 2, the rate of feed is normally constant but is increased or decreased when the level falls or rises outside certain limits. Alternatively, proportional, integral, and/or differential control may be used. The temperature, pressure and moisture content in the space above the molten glass is controlled, the pressure being above atmospheric.</p> |
