[Also in Division F2] A vehicle suspension system incorporates fluid springs of the rolling diaphragm type in which the tendency of such springs to undergo unsprung lateral displacement is avoided by the expedient of fitting an elastomeric O-ring in the spring chamber in contact with the diaphragm and surrounding its operating plunger (see Division F2). In Fig. 3, a public transport vehicle has its rear axle supported by a pair of rigid beams 64 each of which is fitted with a fluid spring 67 of this form. The front axle is supported by a pair of trailing links 72 each fitted with one such spring 80. The fluid (gas or liquid) for all these springs may be derived from a common source (not shown) to which they are all connected through suitable valves, e.g. to constitute a self-levelling system. |
