1,134,575. Electrolytically producing manganese dioxide and zinc. UNION CARBIDE CANADA Ltd. Sept. 1, 1967 [Oct.22, 1966], No.40060/67. Heading C7B. MnO 2 and Zn are simultaneously electrolytically produced as platings on an anode and cathode from an aqueous solution of MnSO 4 and ZnSO 4 heated to 75‹C. to 100‹C., the MnSO 4 concentration being from 0À5 to 2À6 molar and the ZnSO 4 concentration being from 0À4 to 2À6 molar. The anode may be of graphite, Pb, Ti, Pt or Ti-Pd alloy. The cathode may be of A1 or Zn. The anode current density may be between 5 and 25 amps. /sq.ft. and the cathode current density be between 5 and 50 amps. /sq. ft. The Zn may be stripped off the A1 cathodes every 24 hours. A diaphragm cell may be used, the fresh electrolyte being fed into each cathode compartment.
|
