In a fuel injection pumping apparatus, a rotary distributer 12 receives fuel from cylinder 13 via a non-return valve 17 and distributes it through a passage 20 which connects in turn with one of the outlets 21 during each pressure stroke of the pistons 14. When the connection is broken the outlet is connected to a leakage path comprising a recess 31, groove 32, a restrictor portion of valve 34 and recess 38 connected to low-pressure. The valve 34 is variably loaded by a spring 35 and in the opposite direction is subjected to feed pump pressure, which is arranged to vary in accordance with speed, acting through restricted passage 50 on the end of the valve, so that the restriction in the leakage path varies according to speed. At rest the valve is held by spring 35 in a position closing the leakage path to ensure maximum fuel on starting.</p> |
