The invention proposes a method for producing knitwear in which the knitting needles (4) of a knitting machine (1) are supplied in each case with a fibre structure (Y) which has been drawn out to the desired fineness in an upstream drafting system (6). Each fibre structure (Y) is permanently bonded en route between the drafting systems (6) and the knitting needles (4). The permanent bonding of the fibre structure (Y) is detectable at the knitting needles (4). A description is also given of an apparatus for implementing the method.
