processing control-plane data and user-plane data of a communication system in a multicore processor; determining a need for data processing resources in the multicore processor; determining a number of resource units of first and second types to be allocated in the multicore processor; determining whether the multicore processor has the determined number of resource units of the first and the second types available; and if the number of resources of the first and the second types are available, allocating the number of resource units of the first and second types from the multicore processor.
