PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display apparatus, and a method for displaying a character string on a map, the apparatus and method enabling further improvement in the visibility of the character string displayed along with an object.SOLUTION: A map display apparatus includes: a line segment setup part 31 for setting a line segment between a reference arrangement position of first character and a reference arrangement position of a second character constituting a character string; an angle computation part 32 for computing an angle of the set line segment with respect to a display reference line that defines a display orientation of the second character; and an offset computation part 33 for calculating offset direction and offset amount of a character relative to an object on the basis of the calculated angle. Further, calculation of the offset direction and offset amount of an individual character on the basis of the angle of the line segment set to match with a feature line of the object makes it possible to obtain more appropriate offset information matching with the feature of the feature line compared to a case where fixed offset direction and offset amount are set. |
