PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable information terminal that suppresses an operation object from having difficulty being viewed with the operation object hidden by the finger even when the operation object in a display screen is smaller than a tip end of a finger, and enables the operation object to be correctly selected.SOLUTION: A main control part comprises: a hovering state discrimination part 101 that discriminates whether or not a finger is in a hovering state; a first operation position display part 103 that displays a first operation position which is in a y-direction on the basis of the position of the finger in the hovering state; a first operation position determination part 105 that determines the first operation position on the basis of a down-operation; a second operation position display part 107 that displays a second operation position which is in an x-direction on the basis of an operation position of a slide operation; a second operation position determination part 108 that determines a second operation position on the basis of an up-operation; and an operation object determination part 109 that determines an operation object position within a display screen on the basis of the determined first operation position and second operation position.
