The present invention relates to a demand forecasting method and a demand forecasting apparatus, which are capable of forecasting demand that shows an irregular time series pattern with high accuracy. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a demand forecasting method comprises the steps of grouping demand data into a plurality of demand states to classify the demand data, and grouping predetermined external factor data affecting the demand into a plurality of external factor states to classify the predetermined external factor data; forecasting a future external factor state based on transition probability information between the external factor states; forecasting a future demand state based on the correlation between the demand states and the external factor states, and the forecasted future external factor state; and forecasting a future demand value using the forecasted future demand state, and the statistical information of the demand data corresponding to the future demand state.
