<p>According to methods for encoding/decoding a high definition (HD) image and devices for performing the same, the size of a prediction unit to be encoded is set to the size of an extended macro block according to the temporal frequency characteristics or spatial frequency characteristics of at least one picture to be encoded, motion prediction and motion compensation are performed in units of the set prediction unit size, and conversion is performed. Also, after dividing a macro block having a size of 32 x 32 pixels or 64 x 64 pixels into at least one partition based on an edge, encoding is performed for each divided partition. Therefore, encoding efficiency of an HD image having an HD level or higher can be improved.</p> |
