PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for suppressing an increase in viscosity of oil-containing scum and of oil-containing wastewater without consuming a large amount of energy or without causing an increase in water content.SOLUTION: The method for reducing viscosity of oil-containing scum is provided in which one or more sulfonate and/or sulfuric acid ester salt selected from alkyl diphenyl ether disulfonate, dialkyl sulfosuccinate and poly-oxy alkylene alkyl ether sulfuric acid salt is added to oil-containing scum.
