In a ten-key keyboard calculator capable of performing 20 different basic operations each initiated by positioning a programme cam-shaft in one of 20 positions, depression of a control key causes the cam-shaft to be stepped through an appropriate sequence of its 20 positions to effect the desired calculation. Thus, depression of the "multiply" key 15, Fig. 1, causes the camshaft 27 to advance sequentially through positions VI, VII, XII, and XIV which cause respectively, "set multiplier", "effect multiplication", "print multiplier" and "print product". The calculator includes 10 slides 121- 130, Fig. 5, each of which, when released, causes, by means of an associated cam 111-120, the programme cam-shaft to step through a particular sequence of positions. The control keys are so arranged that each partially releases a group of slides and some keys additionally fully release a slide. Thus some slides are only released when an appropriate combination of control keys are actuated (e.g. if before the "multiple "key 15 is depressed a non-motorized lever 337, Fig. 7, is moved to its "accumulate multiplicand" position then an additional slide (124 as well as slide 121) is released when the "multiple" key is depressed and the programme cam-shaft also stops in position VIII, in which position the multiplicand is entered into a specific totalizer). Thus actuation of one or more control keys release one or more slides which cause the programme cam-shaft to stop at the appropriate positions. |
