An IC chip reader according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises; a contact unit which reads data by being touched with an IC chip; a test unit which is touched with the contact unit if the read result of the contact unit is a read error and tests whether the contact unit is operated normally or not; and a control unit which controls the operation of the contact unit and the test unit and determines a cause of the read error by receiving test data from the contact unit. Therefore, the IC chip reader according to the embodiment of the present invention and an operating method thereof can understand a cause of an error in case an IC chip read error is generated. |
