1,142,088. Ferric lactate/sugar complexes. ASTRA A.B. 13 Dec., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 56709/67. Heading C2C. [Also in Divisions A5 and C3] An iron-containing complex is made by adding a solution of a water-soluble ferric salt in portions to a solution containing 85-130 ml. of lactic acid and 200-300 g. of a water-soluble carbohydrate each per 100 g. of added Fe, the pH after each addition of the ferric salt being adjusted to 4-8, and the resulting complex ferric colloid is precipitated by adding an organic solvent miscible with water, and is dried. Specified carbohydrates are saccharose and glucose. The ferric salt may be the chloride, sulphate, nitrate or ferric ammonium chloride. NH 4 OH and NaOH are convenient pH adjusters; ethanol is a convenient organic solvent.
