<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing activated carbon in an oxidizing atmosphere with reduced number of production processes.SOLUTION: In a method for producing activated carbon, inorganic materials including an incombustible alkali metal are added into a floral foam to be molded, and the molded article is heated in the atmosphere to the softening point of the added inorganic materials (approximately 750°C) or higher to form a glassy coating film on the surface of the molded article, whereby the maintenance of a reducing atmosphere inside the molded article and activating effect proceed simultaneously. Consequently, the necessity of a non-oxidizing atmosphere at the time of burning treatment and the necessity of activation treatment are eliminated, which greatly reduces equipment and enables low-cost production of activated carbon in comparison with conventional methods for producing activated carbon.</p> |
