A thermal convection generating device (1), which generates thermal convection in a fluid by heating and cooling a fluid and imparting centrifugal force at the same time, includes: a stage (20) on which a thermal convection generating chip (10) is loadable and unloadable, said thermal convection generating chip including a disk-shaped substrate (11) and a thermal convection pathway (14) formed within a surface perpendicular to the axial line (AX) in the disk-shaped substrate, and imparting centrifugal force to fluid within the thermal convection pathway by being rotated around the axial line of the disk-shaped substrate; a heat source (30) that heats and cools part of the thermal convection pathway; a motor (40) that rotatably drives the thermal convection generating chip around the axial line; and a control means (50) that controls the heat source and the motor.
