1. A nucleoside represented by formula (II):or isomers thereof, wherein:
D1 is H, a hydroxyl protecting group, a solid support, or a reactive phosphorus group; K is O, S, NR′, or an optionally substituted alkyl; B is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic, a natural nucleobase, a modified nucleobase, and a universal nucleobase; V is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, straight or branched optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, wherein one or more methylenes in the alkyl, alkenyl and alkynyl may be interrupted with one or more of O, S, S(O), SO2, N(R′), C(O), N(R′)C(O)O, OC(O)N(R′), phosphorous-containing linkage, optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heteroaryl, optionally substituted heterocyclic or optionally substituted cycloalkyl; R′ is hydrogen, acyl, or unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic; R is H, OH, SH, halogen, optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkenyl, optionally substituted alkynyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkylthio, optionally substituted alkylamino, or optionally substituted dialkylamino; L10 is absent or selected from the group consisting of S, O, NR′, optionally substituted alkylene, optionally substituted alkenylene, and optionally substituted alkynylene; W1 is selected from the group consisting of OR10, OCO2R10,NR20R30, OC(O)NR20R30, OSO2R10, optionally substituted heterocyclic, a boronic group (B(OH)2), andalternatively, W1 and V, taken together with the atoms to which they are bonded, form a cyclic ring;
R20 and R30 are each independently for each occurrence hydrogen, acyl, unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic, aryl, heteroaryl, heterocyclic; or R20 and R30, taken together with the atom to which they are bonded, form a heterocyclic ring; R10 is hydrogen, unsubstituted or substituted aliphatic, aryl, heteroaryl, or heterocyclic; Z is O, S or NR′; Z1 is O or S; X and Y are each independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, SH, SM, OM, borane (BH3), optionally substituted alkyl, optionally substituted alkoxy, optionally substituted alkylthio, optionally substituted alkylamino, and optionally substituted dialkylamino; or X and Y, taken together with the atoms to which they are bonded, formwhereis an optionally substituted C2-C8 alkylene; and
M is a metal counter ion, such as an alkali metal or a transition metal, with an overall charge of +1;provided that when V is hydrogen, W1 is not OH, |
