A device for gene analysis or gene amplification, the device comprising: a reaction vessel including one or a plurality of wells for accommodating a sample liquid containing nucleic acid; a heat sink or a heat exchange chamber; a temperature controller, for the heat sink or the heat exchange chamber, that keeps a temperature of the heat sink or the heat exchange chamber at a first temperature; a thermoelectric element that is located between the heat sink or the heat exchange chamber and the reaction vessel and acts as a medium for heat transfer between the heat sink or the heat exchange chamber and the reaction vessel; and a thermoelectric element controller that changes a temperature of the reaction vessel between the first temperature and a second temperature by controlling an operation of the thermoelectric element; wherein when the thermoelectric element is in an off state, the temperature of the reaction vessel is the first temperature.
