PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device allowing two electrodes to wear stably and uniformly by detecting unevenness of the wear on the two electrodes of an AC discharge lamp.SOLUTION: The light source device includes: an AC discharge lamp 112 which has two electrodes 118 and 120; a ballast circuit 172 that drives the AC discharge lamp; and an optical sensor 174 that detects the amount of light emitted from the AC discharge lamp. The ballast circuit estimates the state of wear on the two electrodes based on the detection result from the optical sensor. The AC discharge lamp is driven so as to reduce the time or current of timing of the electrode estimated to have a larger wear gets at the positive electrode side.
