PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer which is used in printing on a recording medium which does not have an ink absorption layer on a surface layer, and can determine and calibrate a discharge state accurately.SOLUTION: An ink jet printer 1 includes: a discharge part 35 which can discharge ink containing a color material and a resin emulsion on a recording paper P; and a platen heater 81 which heats the recording paper P and the ink discharged on the recording paper P. A heat quantity emitted from the platen heater 81 when an image except for a test pattern image is formed on the recording paper P is larger than when the test pattern image for checking whether the ink is discharged or not from the discharge part 35 is formed on the recording paper P. |
