<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heavy metal ion capturing material made of a new hydrocalumite which has a narrow particle size distribution and has superior heavy metal ion capturing capacity, and to provide a capturing method of heavy metal ion using the heavy metal ion capturing material. <P>SOLUTION: The heavy metal ion capturing material is composed of a structure represented by the general formula (1) [in the formula, X is at least one kind of an anion selected from OH<SP POS="POST">-</SP>, NO<SB POS="POST">3</SB><SP POS="POST">-</SP>and NO<SB POS="POST">2</SB><SP POS="POST">-</SP>and n represents: n≤20] and is made of the hydrocalumite which has an average particle size according to laser light scattering method, of 1μm or more and less than 7μm and has a content of particles 100μm or more, of less than 3 wt.%.
