[Also in Division A5] Pyridone-phosphorus esters of the formula wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and Z<SP>6</SP> are alkyl radicals having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, R is hydrogen, a saturated acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or an unsaturated acyclic aliphatic hydrocarbon radical having 2 to 6 carbon atoms and X is oxygen or sulphur, are prepared by reacting in a liquid medium a compound of the formula with a pyridone compound of the formula wherein Z is a halogen, preferably chlorine, and A is hydrogen when a hydrogen halide binding agent, e.g. potassium carbonate, is also included in the reaction mixture, or is an alkali metal atom, e.g. potassium. The liquid medium is preferably an organic polar solvent, e.g. ethanol, acetone, dimethylformamide, acetonitrile, dimethyl sulphoxide, isobutyl methyl ketone or methyl ethyl ketone. The compounds have pesticidal properties. 4 - Hydroxy - 6 - methylpyran - 2 - one is prepared by reacting dehydroacetic acid with an aqueous sulphuric acid solution (see Example 4). 1-Methyl-, 1-allyl-, and 1-n-propyl-4-hydroxy- 6-methylpyrid-2-ones are prepared by reacting 4 - hydroxy - 6 - methylpyran - 2 - one with methylamine, allylamine and n-propylamine respectively.</p> |
