A centrifuge system includes a centrifuge device (100) and a handheld computing device (20) in data communication with the centrifuge device. The centrifuge device includes a chamber (104), a rotor (106) disposed in the chamber, a display device (130), and a processing device (120), wherein the processing device operates to generate a user interface on the display device identifying a status of the centrifuge device. The handheld computing device (20) includes a handheld display device (142) and a handheld processing device (138) that operates to generate a handheld user interface (140) on the handheld display device identifying the status of the centrifuge device.
