A ball and socket joint has a plastic insert 6 separated into two parts by a central flange 5 disposed in the bore of an outer ring and pointing radially inwards. The inside diameter of the central flange is only slightly greater than the outside diameter of the spherical inner ring 1, so that the inner ring is a sliding fit in the central flange. The outer ring 3 may have a recess 8 on the surface so that the central flange can yield resiliently. In other embodiments, an end flange may be bent upwards to allow insertion of the inner ring (Fig. 2, not shown) before being bent back; or the outer ring may have an opening on one side for the inner ring (Fig. 3, not shown); or a ring of circular cross section may be inserted in the bore of the outer ring instead of an integral side flange (Fig. 4, not shown). |
