A protector 10, or racking bumper 10, features a pair of jaws 12,14 resiliently biased around hinges 22 so as to engage around a structural member, such as a vertical post, of shelving or racking (fig.1b). Also disclosed is a corresponding method of making the protector 10, which may be by extrusion. Also disclosed is a corresponding method of usage of the protector 10, by engaging it under resilient bias, around a structural member (fig.1b). Also disclosed is a corresponding structure with the protector 10 attached (fig.1b). The hinges 22 may be provided by a narrowing in the main material of the protector 10, with an alternate resilient material 24A,24B carried within the hinges 22. A bumper section 28 of the protector 10 may feature webs 30, which help an outwards bulging of the bumper 28 under impact (fig.1b). Projections 34 may prevent lateral movement of the protector 10 on the structual member. |
