Also, conventional light sources have the disadvantages of not being suited to decentralized distribution, which is crucial to evenly illuminating the letter plates, and of not being suited to channel letters having complex forms (for example, kanji characters written in a Mincho font). [Solution] This backlight system enables the decentralized distribution of light sources while affording a high degree of freedom as to the positioning thereof, and effectively diffuses the light radiation from the light sources. This makes it possible to fabricate the side walls from laser-cut resin materials, etc, so that complex channel letters can be fabricated at low cost, while affording even illumination of the letter plates.
