<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a static eliminator and a static elimination method having high elimination effects wherein air ions effective in static elimination of a charged body can be supplied at high efficiency, by reducing surplus air ions around the charged body. <P>SOLUTION: The static eliminator includes a discharge electrode 2 and a high-voltage power supply 3 for supplying a high voltage to the discharge electrode via a cable 4 for high-voltage power transmission, and eliminates the charged body 1, which is a static eliminating object by the air ions generated by discharge by the discharge electrode 2; and between the discharge electrode 2 and the charged body 1, a grounding member 5 is provided disposed, at a position 12 closer to the charged body 1 than a middle point 11 between the discharge electrode 2 and the charged body 1.
