<p>An onboard system and method for suspension or steering damage detection in a wheeled vehicle includes a control unit (10), a range of sensors (11) and a memory means (15) for logging an incident, e.g. a kerb strike. The control unit monitors an input condition to a sensor for comparison to a safety threshold and, if the safety threshold is exceeded, then the incident is recorded to the memory means. The system and method is particularly useful for registering minor accidents, such as a kerb strike, which may not cause any immediately noticeable impairment to operation of the vehicle, but may lead to more serious damage later. Preferably the system includes a communication unit (17) and/or user alert unit (16) which prompts a vehicle inspection to be arranged, even if, to the vehicle operator, there is no visible damage or change in operation.</p> |
