<PICT:1002448/C6-C7/1> A method of producing tinplate in the form of strip comprises cold reducing strip to a first thickness, effecting by heat treatment a softening of the strip when it is at its first thickness, cold reducing the heat-treated strip by 30-70% to a second thickness, and tinning that strip (e.g. electrolytically) when it is at its second thickness. The Figure illustrates hot rolling at 11 to a thickness of 0.080-0.110 inch, pickling at 13, cold rolling at 16 to a thickness of 0.006-0.012 inch, electrolytic cleaning, annealing at 19, cold rolling at 23 to a thickness of 0.003-0.006 inch and hardness of above T-5, electrocleaning, pickling, electrolytic tinning, reflowing, passivating and oiling. |
