摘要 A battery unit 200 comprises an electric energy reservoir 222 having positive and negative voltage supply terminals, three or more electric contact pads 202a-202d on an outer surface of the battery unit, and a dynamically configurable connection unit 220 for electrically connecting each of the positive and negative voltage supply terminals to any one or more of the electric contact pads, wherein electric energy can be drawn from the electric energy reservoir via selectively different combinations of electric contact pads. The battery unit can be one of many such units which are supplied to a vehicle tank (518, fig 5A), in much the same way as liquid fuel is supplied to a vehicle. The battery units can be supplied to the tank in an undefined orientation, so that the units touch via the contact pads. The tank (518, fig 5A) has at least two inwardly facing tank contact pads (504A-F, 505A-F, fig 5A). An electrical supply path can therefore be determined by the dynamically configurable connection unit 220 using the tank contact pads (504A-F, 505A-F, fig 5A) and battery unit contact pads 202a-202d to supply power to an external load. Individual battery units 200 can be programmed to enable optimal energy supply paths between the at least two tank contact pads (504A-F, 505A-F, fig 5A) via the battery units.
