[Also in Division B2] A laminated sheet material is produced by applying a solution of high molecular weight plastics material to a liquid-and-gas permeable auxiliary sheet material, the surface of which has fine projections or depressions corresponding to embossments required on the surface of a laminate, precipitating the polymer on the auxiliary sheet material prior to, simultaneously with or subsequent to the application of a textile sheet material to the layer of plastics material, and separating the resultant polymeric, microporous layer from the auxiliary sheet material either together with an applied textile sheet material, or as such if the textile sheet material has not hitherto been applied, in the latter case the sheet material being applied to the unembossed surface of the separated polymer layer. The auxiliary sheet material may be a fine-meshed wire gauze which may be wetted prior to application of the plastics material with the liquid used for precipitation or with another substance acting as a separating and precipitating agent. The coating composition may contain fillers and/or pigments, e.g. cellulose powder, kaolin, titanium dioxide, polyvinyl chloride. The coating compositions may be polyester or polyether urethane solutions. As shown in Fig. 1, a coating composition 10 falls between a circulating sieve belt 11 and a fleece web 12 which pass together between a pair of rollers 14 with a lamination gap, into a liquid bath 13 for precipitation. The laminate is separated at 15 from the auxiliary supporting belt 11 and passes to a drying channel 16. |
