[Also in Division H5] Electroslag casting apparatus for the manufacture of ingots of different sizes comprises two electrode holders 60, 60<SP>1</SP> rotatable about and vertically displaceable on columns 30, 30<SP>1</SP>, and two moulds 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, the electrode holders alternately and in sequence supplying electrodes 50 to one 10 of the two moulds while one of the electrode holders also inserts electrodes 50<SP>1</SP> into the other 10<SP>1</SP> of the two moulds; thus a small ingot can be cast at the same time as a larger one requiring the melting of several electrodes. The moulds 10, 10<SP>1</SP> are supported by the arms 21, 22 of mould-lifting carriages 20, 20<SP>1</SP> which are vertically displaceable on the columns 30, 301 by means of cables 40. The apparatus may also include three copper base plates 130, 140 and 150 on which the ingots 55 formed, rest. When an electrode has been consumed, its holder is raised and rotated about its column until it is located above an electrode supply device 170<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, which comprises an angular lever 171 pivoted at its angle corner and operated by a piston 177 in a cylinder 179, arranged alongside the outer base plate 130 or 150. The electrode holder 60<SP>1</SP> is then moved downwards, the stub of the electrode removed by a platform (180<SP>1</SP>), and a new electrode supplied by the device 170<SP>1</SP>. |
