A means to secure an ostomy without the use of belt comprises a baseplate 1 having a hole therein [Fig 1; 2] and a shaped form 3 created as part of the base plate. Form 3 has a raised circular shape with a plurality of ribs or spines radiating outwards [Figures 3, 4; 3, 4]. The raised portion acts to keep the centre of the baseplate rigid while the remainder of the baseplate flexes. In use, an ostomy pouch 13 is located onto the abdomen of the user via an adhesive flange over the stoma [Fig 5; 7]. The base plate is then located above the flange. The base plate may rely on the elastic nature of the wearers garments to hold it in situ. A protective cover 9 is affixed to the baseplate and may use a hook and loop fastening means [Fig 7; 12]. The cover is curved to provide a gap or opening [Figures 6, 7; 10, 11] allowing matter from the stoma to have an uninterrupted passage to the bag 13 and to prevent faecal matter from collecting around the stoma which may result in leakage and to aid in protecting the stoma.
|
