1,248,454. Crimping filaments. ALGEMENE KUNSTZIJDE UNIE N.V. 12 Dec., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 59229/68. Heading D1F. A method of producing a crimped synthetic yarn by heating the yarn asymmetrically to produce a latent crimp, is characterised in that a second crimp is introduced by subjecting the yarn to a direct crimping treatment, e.g. gearcrimping, stuffer-box crimping or air-crimping. In a preferred embodiment the yarn is heated to a temperature in the range 70-180‹C by heater 5 prior to being crimped for example by gear-crimping rollers 6, 7. The yarn is preferably also drawn, the asymmetrical heating being carried out by a heated pin 10 contacting one of wraps of yarn around rolls 8 and 9. The surface temperature of the heated pin 10 is preferably higher than the softening point of the treated yarn, which yarn is preferably a polyamide or polyester yarn. |
