<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which can properly suppress effects of a heat radiation layer on a magnetic recording layer if the heat radiation layer is made thick. <P>SOLUTION: A magnetic recording medium is used for a heat-assisted magnetic recording device. The magnetic recording medium includes a non-magnetic substrate, a heat radiation layer, a buffer layer, a soft magnetic backing layer, and a magnetic recording layer, in this order.
