<p>A substructure for a motor vehicle has a first side member comprising an upper shell 23 and a preferably U-shaped lower shell (20, Figure 7), which crosses a rear axle (3, Figure 1) and extends under a passenger cell (5, Figure 1). In a transition region (7, Figure 2) between the rear axle and the passenger cell, typically in a curvature zone (47, Figure 7), the side member comprises at least one wall 29, 30 fastened to the shells in a material doubling manner. The lower shell may comprise a deep-drawn part 28 on which wall 29, 30 is mounted, and an additional roll-formed part 27. A second side member may be provided that is a mirror image of the first side member. Wall 29, 30 may provide reinforcement without enlarging the cross-section of the side member.</p> |
