A piezoelectric photovoltaic cell is disclosed. The cell may include a photovoltaic portion, including a sensitized semiconductor material. The cell may also include a piezoelectric portion, including a piezoelectric material.

A piezoelectric photovoltaic cell comprising a photoelectric layer coupled to a layer of piezoelectric material, wherein said layer of piezoelectric material has a first surface and a second surface opposite said first surface and wherein said first surface of said layer of piezoelectric material is in direct contact with a first electrolyte layer and said second surface of said layer of piezoelectric material is in direct contact with a second electrolyte layer, wherein the second electrolyte layer is separate from said first electrolyte layer.
