In some embodiments, there is, in addition, a step of marking the object with a mark bearing information representative of at least a portion of the physical characteristic.

A method for reading a physical characteristic on a document, which comprises: a step of capturing a first image of at least a portion of said document with a first resolution; a step of determining a position of an area of the document to be processed, according to said first image; a step of capturing a second image of said area of the document to be processed, said second image being captured at a second resolution higher than said first resolution; and a step of determining said physical characteristic based on said second image, wherein the step of determining the position of the area of the document to be processed comprises a step of decoding information represented by a code printed on the document, said information locating the position of the area to be processed, the area to be processed being different than the area containing the code printed on the document, and wherein during the step of capturing the second image, the second image of said area of the document to be processed is captured at the position of said area located by the decoded information.
