A blood serum reference standard comprises freeze dried human blood serum and for reconstituting the serum a separate aqueous solution of ammonium bicarbonate of a concentration which will give a predetermine carbon dioxide content in the reconstituted serum, for example from 12 to 35 meq CO 2 / litre (equivalent CO 2 in CO 2 +H 2 CO 3 +HCO 3 -). The reference standard may be used in procedures for simultaneous automatic analysis of blood serum constituents, for example albumin, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin, calcium, chloride, CO 2 , glucose, potassium, sodium, total protein, transaminase, urea nitrogen. |
