modulating an X-ray signal with a first radio frequency and with a second radio frequency to generate a modulated X-ray signal; transmitting the modulated X-ray signal toward a container that contains an item; detecting modulated X-ray signal backscatter from the item; and processing the modulated X-ray signal backscatter to identify a chemical element in the item based on differences in the modulated X-ray signal backscatter over time that occur at a rate associated with a nuclear quadrupole resonance of the chemical element. |
