PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely scavenge exhaust gas from an exhaust system after stopping the operation of an engine in a state of giving no uncomfortable feeling to a driver.SOLUTION: When the supply of fuel is cut by ignition-OFF, a crankshaft 7 is forcibly driven by a motor 30 before inertia rotation of the crankshaft 7 decreases to work a piston 5 as a pump for performing scavenging. The scavenging rotation is performed with a throttle valve 23 fully opened. As the crankshaft 7 is forcibly driven, scavenging is sure. As the scavenging rotation is continuous to rotation at the time when the ignition-OFF, no uncomfortable feeling or uneasy feeling is given to a driver.
