PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric encoder that can secure a large gap between a scale and a detection head without use of a lens.SOLUTION: A photoelectric encoder 100 according to the present invention comprises: an absolute scale 110 in which absolute patterns based on pseudo random data are provided; and a detection head 120 that has a light source 121 irradiating the absolute patterns with light and a reception unit 122 receiving light from the absolute patterns, and the photoelectric encoder 100 detects an absolute position of the detection head 120 with respect to the absolute scale 110. In the photoelectric encoder 100, the absolute pattern is configured by repetition of a grating part and a dark part, and the photoelectric encoder 100 further comprises: interference fringe generation means 130 for generating an interference fringe by collaboration with the grating part; and an interference fringe signal processing unit 124 that detects pseudo random data on the absolute pattern on the basis of the interference fringe received by the reception unit 122. |
