PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus including a protection mechanism of a transfer roller for maintenance.SOLUTION: An opening/closing member 43 on a side face of an image forming apparatus 1 turns around a lower hinge part 47. A secondary transfer roller 25 is held by a roller holding part 48 of the opening/closing member. A rotation shaft 51 integrated with a cover part 52 of a protective cover 26 is connected to both ends of a shaft of the secondary transfer roller. When the opening/closing member 43 is opened, a drive transmission gear 58 rotates in an arrow c direction along with rotation of the lower hinge part 47, a gear cam 57 rotates in an arrow d direction, a lower end of a slider driving shaft 56 moves down by an amount of an arrow e, a slider member 54 at a top end moves down from the uppermost part to the lower most part of two slider guide rails 55, a turning relay shaft 53 turns in an arrow f direction, a turning shaft 51 of the protective cover 26 turns in the same direction at the same angle as the turning relay shaft 53, the whole of the protective cover 26 turns in an arrow g direction, and the cover part 52 moves to a position for protecting an exposed peripheral surface of the secondary transfer roller 25. |
