[Also in Divisions C5, D1 and D2] A substantially unoriented polyolefin film is coated with a magnetic ink comprising iron oxide, a binder, e.g. polystyrene, a plasticizing oil, e.g. castor oil, and a solvent, e.g. toluene. Other binders mentioned are vinyl acetatechloride copolymer, cellulose acetate butyrate, ethyl cellulose, and nitrocellulose. The oil may be an animal, vegetable, mineral, or synthetic oil. The polyolefin may be polyethylene or polypropylene. The coated film is heated to evaporate the solvent and then slit. |
