PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that has excellent lighting efficiency of light that illuminates an optical modulation device.SOLUTION: A projector of the present invention includes a diffraction optical element 5 on which light emitted from a collimating optical system 4 is made incident, a superposition optical system 18 on which diffraction light emitted from the diffraction optical element 5 is made incident, and an optical modulation device 12 on which light emitted from the superposition optical system 18 is made incident. The diffraction optical element 5 has a function to correct aberration of the collimating optical system 4 and is provided at the focal point on the front side of the superposition optical system 18, and the optical modulation device 12 is provided at the focal point on the rear side of the superposition optical system 18. |
