The present invention provides a user terminal capable of enabling a user to prevent over-movement of items by, if an item which the user needs to recognize among items displayed by being moved by a use input passes through a main visible area, controlling the size and moving speed of the item and a control method thereof. The user terminal includes: an image receiving unit which receives an image; an image processing unit which processes the received image; a display unit which displays the processed image; and a control unit which displays GUI including at least one first item, moves a plurality of second items which are not currently displayed to the GUI according to a user input, and controls at least one between the size and the moving speed of the item if at least one item among the displayed second items passes through a main visible area. By doing so, it is possible to prevent over-movement of items due to user inputs. Also, a user can reduce the number of operations by the user to move back due to over-movement and accordingly move an item to a desired position easily.
