PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ionomer having low equivalent weight.SOLUTION: There are provided an ionomer having (1) low equivalent weight (less than 950, preferably 625 to 850, most preferably about 675 to about 800) and (2) high conductivity (more than 0.13 S/cm) and a method of manufacturing the ionomer. In alternative embodiment, the invention provides an ionomer having (1) low equivalent weight (less than 950, preferably 625 to 850, most preferably about 675 to about 800) and (2) acceptable low hydration (less than about 120 wt.%). These ionomers can be processed into a thin film and highly suitable for low humidity or high temperature fuel cell use. |
